Background
My initial academic training was in pure mathematics,
at graduate level (approximately equivalent to a current Master’s degree),
with work in areas including Riemannian geometry and
elliptic partial differential equations.
I subsequently moved to computer science and artificial intelligence,
completing a PhD at the Université de Pau et des Pays de l’Adour
(UPPA) in 2004. My doctoral research concerned
multi-agent systems, situated agents,
self-organization and
emergent collective behaviour.
My doctoral thesis,
LOCUS : un modèle d’analyse locale de l’échec pour l’élaboration
de systèmes d’agents situés, was defended at the
Université de Pau et des Pays de l’Adour in 2004.
Thesis record on theses.fr.
After this period of academic research, most of my professional activity
shifted towards mathematics and science teaching.
In parallel, I pursued long-term independent study and reflection in
evolutionary biology, neuroscience
and learning sciences, with particular interest in
alternative approaches to science education and conceptual understanding.
Current research
In 2026 I returned to independent research in artificial intelligence.
My current work explores conceptual and dynamical models of the
evolution of advanced AI systems, with particular interest in
interactions between cognitive capability,
metacognition, motivational structure,
self-preservation, instrumental expansion
and reflective motivational detachment.
